Synopsis

Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-paced, wildly funny and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a truly fresh and vibrant score by William Finn, this bee is one unforgettable experience.

An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.

Synopsis

A courtroom has never been more lively and fun than in The Big Bad Musical!  This smart and wickedly funny musical is great for actors and audiences of any age.  The jury — your audience — must decide the outcome of the biggest trial ever in the fairy-tale world!  The notorious Big Bad Wolf is being slapped with a class-action lawsuit by storybooks of quirky characters who want to get even:  Little Red Riding Hood, her Grandmother, the Three Little Pigs, and the Shepherd in charge of the Boy Who Cried Wolf.  With Sydney Grimm as the commentator on live Court TV, the two greatest legal minds in the Enchanted Forest — the Evil Stepmother and the Fairy Godmother — clash in a trial that will be remembered forever after.  As our wronged fairy tale characters testify, the wolf seems deserving of all that’s coming.  Yet, even though the infamous Evil Stepmother resents doing pro-bono work on such an obviously futile defense, Mr. Wolf makes a good case for himself.  Was he born a criminal, or made one?  This musical has it all — audience participation, minimal set and costume requirements, a good balance of stage time for each character, multiple endings to make every performance unique, and Bill Francoeur’s toe-tapping tunes!

Synopsis

This dramatization captures the charm and excitement of L.M. Montgomery’s enduring classic about an orphan girl, Anne Shirley, from her first encounter with her austere guardian to her thrilling graduation from Queen’s Academy. The play faithfully recreates the memorable events and characters from the brilliant novel. All the tragedies and triumphs that mark Anne’s growth from adolescence to early adulthood are here: her friendship with Diana, her feuds with Gilbert, her adoration of Matthew, the mistaken wine bottle, the cake disaster, the broken leg, the scholastic achievements, and the saving of Green Gables. Whether the playgoer is an “old friend” of Anne’s or meeting her for the first time, this play will solidify a lasting friendship between the audience and one of literature’s most unforgettable characters.

Synopsis

This large-cast musical features a variety of charming school and sea-creature characters who admire the famous Rainbow Fish, the most beautiful fish in all the ocean.  When Rainbow Fish refuses to share his (or her!)  vibrant, shimmering scales (played by separate actors who become a chorus for solo songs), the whole ocean seems to turn against the vain creature.  Unhappy that no one adores him anymore, the Rainbow Fish seeks out the wise Octopus, whose tentacles can also be played by separate actors.  Octopus helps the young fish learn that it’s far better to be admired for being kind than for being beautiful.

Synopsis

At the Central Park Zoo, Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippo and Melman the giraffe prepare for another day of visitors while the Penguins plan their escape (“It’s Showtime“). Zookeeper Zoe, Zookeeper Zeke and Zookeeper Zelda rev up the crowd. Marty, feeling down about being trapped in the zoo, daydreams about what life would be like on the outside (“Wild and Free“). The other animals throw Marty a surprise birthday party, but when he shares his wish to go to the wild, they burst his bubble by telling him that he’s crazy. After the other animals leave, Alex sticks around to cheer up his buddy (“Best Friends“), and talk him out of leaving. Despite the pep talk, Marty escapes from the zoo.

Alex, Gloria and Melman scour the city in search of their friend. Once they are reunited, everyone tries to remain calm, despite the commotion of the city and the threat of capture by Police Officer 1, Police Officer 2 and Animal Control Officers (“Relax, Be Cool, Chill Out“). Tranquilizer shots bring the adventure to an end (“Grand Central“), and the animals fall asleep. When they awaken, the Zoosters, Mason and the Penguins are trapped in crates on a ship bound for Africa. The Penguins take control of the ship and steer wildly, causing the other animals’ crates to fall overboard. Unaware, the Penguins set off for Antarctica (“Penguins’ Sea Shanty“).

Synopsis

Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother’s protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out being different is not a bad thing to be.
