Sixteen: the edge of possibility. Time to make your dreams come true.

Director’s Note

I am thrilled to have the opportunity to direct “Everybody’s Talking about Jamie” because it’s a story that resonates deeply with me. At its heart, it’s a tale of resilience, self-discovery, and the power of unconditional love.

Jamie New’s journey is one of triumph over adversity. Despite facing numerous challenges and societal prejudices, Jamie refuses to dim his light. His unwavering confidence and pride are truly inspiring, serving as a reminder that we should never let others dictate our worth or dampen our spirits.

One aspect of the story that particularly moves me is Jamie’s relationship with his mother. Their bond is a beautiful portrayal of love, support, and acceptance. It highlights the importance of having a strong support system, especially during times of uncertainty and doubt.

As a director, I am passionate about bringing Jamie’s story to life on stage because it’s a celebration of individuality and the courage to embrace who you truly are. It’s a reminder that we all deserve to shine brightly and take center stage in our own lives. I believe that “Everybody’s Talking about Jamie” has the power to uplift, inspire, and spark meaningful conversations about acceptance and inclusion.

Synopsis

L. Frank Baum’s beloved story of a young girl’s adventure in a magical land has been entertaining audiences for over a century. MGM’s blockbuster 1939 film adaptation, featuring the timeless songs of Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, along with the brilliant instrumental music of Herbert Stothart, elevated the popular novel to even greater heights. This stage adaptation, featuring the characters and celebrated songs from the film, brings the wondrous Land of Oz to life in a jubilant theatrical experience.

Join Dorothy and her loyal companion Toto as they “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” through the Land of Oz, determined to reach the Emerald City, where the great and powerful Wizard of Oz will help them get home. Of course, along the way, Dorothy encounters witches (both good and bad), Munchkins, talking trees and winged monkeys. But most importantly, she befriends three unique characters: a Scarecrow with no brain, a Tin Man with no heart, and a Lion with no “nerve.” Their journey to happiness – and self-awareness – is a glowing testament to friendship, understanding and hope in a world filled with both beauty and ugliness.

Two-Week New Works Production

We are excited to partner with Broadway Licensing to workshop a new script and score with the writing team of a brand new musical, County Fair! We will stage the musical in the first week of the intensive. In the second week, playwrights and composers Matt Webster and Taylor Ferrera will join us to workshop the final product. This will include script changes, music edits, and overall vision support from the creators of the piece! Our production will be the flagship production used to advertise the show on the Broadway Licensing website.

Synopsis

After the death of their father, two sisters, Claudia and DJ Stratford, return home to deal with their inheritance: a massive and beloved county fair in rural Georgia. Thinking that this could be the cash windfall that they desperately seek, the sisters plan to sell off the fair land to the highest bidder, then high tail it back to civilization. But when Claudia starts to fall in love with the fair, the townsfolk, and an over-apologetic board member, her heart leads her away from her sister and down a path she’s unprepared for. Needing the money to pay off a large, secret gambling debt, DJ must do whatever it takes to sell the fair – even if that means sabotaging her sister’s new romantic relationship. Betrayals, imposters, and mistaken identity lead to sister battling sister in a winner-take-all Messina County Dixie Derby competition to save the fair. Inspired by Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing and full of all your favorite country hits like “Chicken Fried,” “Hey Good Lookin’,” “The House That Built Me,” “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” and so many others, County Fair is a new musical comedy about sisters, community, and being proud of where you come from.
