What is JTF?

Junior Theatre Festival brings together student musical theater troupes from all over the world for a weekend of musical theater mayhem and madness. The weekend is full of theatre troupe performances, workshops, showcases, awards and FUN with like-minded people from all across the globe!

JTF is the LARGEST student theatre festival in the country.

The NTPA JTF troupe will travel and perform at JTF Atlanta in January 2025.

Performance Opportunities!

  • NTPA has been selected for a special TOP SECRET performance opportunity this year!
  • Each troupe performs fifteen minutes from a Broadway Junior show for adjudication by a panel of Broadway and musical theatre experts.
  • Selected student performers will be chosen for the JTF All-Stars troupe.
  • Up to 8 students from each troupe will be invited to audition for Junior Choreography DVD shoots.
  • Four students from each group can complete in the Tech Olympics.

Audition Information

Grades: 4-12

This year’s audition is a 2-part process. All auditioners must complete both parts of the audition to be considered.

Part 1: VOCAL VIDEO AUDITION
Due June 25 by Midnight
A one-minute video of your song of choice from any musical or Disney film

PART 2: DANCE AUDITION
Tuesday, July 2, 5:30-9:30 PM – Willow Bend Center of the Arts
Auditioners must be at the dance audition for the entire call time.
What to wear: In professional dance calls, it is best to dress in a way that best suits the production and dance style. For this dance call we request that you wear the following:

  • SHOES: Character Heel/Jazz Shoes/Jazz Boot
  • Form Fitting leotard/dress/skirt with tights/leggings/jazz pants combo OR movement pants and an athletic top with appropriate shoes
  • No need to go and purchase anything but students should get into this habit for professional dance calls.

NTPA is proud to be attending JTF for our sixth year. Our performance troupe has been recognized each year with some of the highest recognitions given at JTF.

  • 2020: Excellence in Ensemble

  • 2022: Excellence in Ensemble, this troupe also was selected to perform MTI’s New Works Showcase

  • 2024: Excellence in Ensemble, this troupe was selected to perform MTI’s New Works Showcase for Beetlejuice JR

Requirements

  • Audition (must complete video and in-person audition)
  • Attend informational meetings
  • Attend JTF rehearsals
  • Commit to time and financial obligations

Rehearsals

  • MUSIC BOOT CAMP (required) August 5-8, 6-9 PM
  • CHOREOGRAPHY BOOT CAMP (required) – 9/20 (6-9:30 PM), 9/21 (10AM-4PM), 9/22 (2-8PM)
  • Tuesday nights starting September 24 at NTPA Fairview
  • Saturday morning rehearsals throughout the Fall 
  • Special project vocal rehearsals – date TBD
  • Special Project Rehearsal: All-troupe rehearsal (required) at Cleburne High School (Cleburne, TX) – Sunday, November 24, 9am-5pm and Monday, November 25, 9am-4:45pm followed by 6pm Performance for Family and Friends
    • NOTE: Students who cannot attend the two required days in Cleburne, will not be eligible for the Special Project Showcase, BUT they are still eligible to participate in the adjudication piece!

Cost

Approximately: $995

Approximate cost of participation includes all JTF dues/admission to the festival, rehearsals, shirts, wrist bands to trade, and lodging. This does not include transportation (airfare, to/from hotel), meals, or souvenirs. Hotel is based on an occupancy of four to a room.

Parents/guardians will have an opportunity to attend. Cost to attend is approximately $850 per adult.

The costs associated with JTF are billed in three installments.

Hotel Room Costs: Depending on the number of people in your room will vary the cost of the hotel. If a parent is attending with their performer they will be in a room together. If there are troupe members traveling without a parent, there will be an option to have a third person in your room.

Parent/performers of the same gender may choose to share a room, four people to a room. Final room costs will be shared with the troupe at the parent meeting. Troupe will stay in a hotel contracted by NTPA together.
