Starcatchers is NTPA’s Therapeutic Arts program designed specifically for children and adults with cognitive disabilities. In this program, students are given opportunities to shine through drama, music, dance, and visual art. These opportunities range from large theatre productions to intimate art classes and include people of all ages. The Starcatchers believe that the future of the performing arts is accessible to all.
Not only can a student’s involvement in the arts strongly impact multiple areas of their life, but it can also have an impact on the community. What makes the Starcatchers program unique is not just the work with children and adults with disabilities, but its relational approach to the work.
Our Performance Partners support our actors in specific areas, such as learning lines, learning stage cues, prompting during performances, facilitating small group activities, and other support needs as specified on an individual basis. Through this partnership, Starcatchers students are able to advocate for themselves and their needs and build connections with their community.

New to Starcatchers?
Join us for a FREE Starcatchers UpSTARt Workshop!
The NTPA UpSTARt Workshop is a free 2-hour workshop designed for the “new student” who wants to learn more about being a star on an NTPA stage! This fast-paced, high-energy, and fun-filled workshop will give your future actor the confidence to “take the stage” and the training so that they know what to expect!
The Starcatchers UpSTARt Workshops are adapted for youth and adults with cognitive disabilities and will be limited in size.

New opportunity to support!
NTPA – Starcatchers have set a goal to raise $5,000 to hire ASL interpreters for one performance for every single production across the North Texas Performing Arts organization.
Make a donation today to help us increase accessibility in our theatres!
Scholarship funds are available to help with tuition, transportation, and costume costs.
Scholarships are considered on a rolling basis when funding is available.
Classes and camps are a great way to try out a Starcatchers program! These programs are shorter than our theatre productions and focus on an individual topic or skill. Check out our upcoming classes and camps by clicking the button below!
Starcatchers students are children and adults with a variety of developmental, intellectual, emotional, or mental disabilities or disorders. However, art allows us to look beyond those labels.
In this program, students get to create and grow as individuals, with their peers, and in a safe, non-threatening environment. The experience of creating and performing art in this setting allows for Starcatchers students to feel accepted and to be seen in a positive perspective.
A Performance Partner is a volunteer who is equally passionate about the performing arts and disability advocacy. We encourage anyone who is interested in creating accessible art for all to consider joining the Performance Partner program. Adults with disabilities are especially encouraged to join to act as mentors for the children and adolescents involved in the Starcatchers program.
Performance partners are involved in every step of our programming including but not limited to: playing small support roles in productions, supporting actors with their lines, supporting actors with learning and performing music (both vocal and instrumental), supporting actors with learning and performing choreography and stage directions, supporting the development of theatre and drama skills, leading small group activities (improvised scenes, theatre games, brainstorming sessions, etc.) and working with the director/lead teacher to address barriers to engagement during rehearsals and classes.
Performance Partners may be asked to work one-on-one with an actor, depending on the specific needs of the actors involved in the program. The experience of creating and performing art in this setting allows for the Starcatchers program to foster connection and mutual support with the greater community.
