Community Award Descriptions

Distinguished Middle School Performing Arts Educator

The Middle School Performing Arts Educator Stardust Award will go to that public or private middle-school educator who works to inspire our youth to develop their performing arts skills in dance, choir, orchestra, band, theatre, speech or debate and other performing arts disciplines. This professional goes “above and beyond” to provide a meaningful and impactful performing arts educational experience for their students

Qualifications:

  • The Nominee must be a North Texas public or private middle-school performing arts educator teaching skills in dance, choir, orchestra, band, theatre, speech/debate or other performing arts discipline.

Distinguished High School and Senior High Performing Arts Educator

The High School Performing Arts Educator Stardust Award will go to that public or private high school educator who works to inspire our youth to develop their performing arts skills in dance, choir, orchestra, band, theatre, speech or debate, and other performing arts disciplines. This professional goes “above and beyond” to provide a meaningful and impactful performing arts educational experience for their students

Qualifications:

  • The Nominee must be a North Texas public or private high school performing arts educator teaching skills in dance, choir, orchestra, band, theatre, speech or debate, or other performing arts discipline.

Distinguished Collegiate Performing Arts Educator

The Collegiate Performing Arts Educator Stardust Award will go to that public or private collegiate educator who works to inspire young adults to develop their performing arts skills in dance, choir, orchestra, band, theatre, speech or debate, or other performing arts discipline. This professional goes “above and beyond” to provide a meaningful and impactful performing arts educational experience for their students

Qualifications:

  • The Nominee must be a North Texas public or private collegiate level performing arts educator teaching skills in dance, choir, orchestra, band, theatre, speech or debate, or other performing arts discipline.

Distinguished Performing Artist

The Distinguished Artist Stardust Award goes to that outstanding adult artist whose performing art challenges, inspires and delights their audiences. Their art may be in theatre, dance, vocal, instrumental or other performing arts discipline.

Qualifications:

  • The Artist must be a dancer, actor, vocalist, musician, playwright, composer, lyricist or other performing artist aged eighteen or older.
  • The artist must have performed within the last three years and is a current resident of North Texas.

Distinguished Performing Arts Volunteer

The Performing Arts Volunteer Stardust Award celebrates an individual who has made a significant impact in a non-profit performing arts organization’s operations, programming, governance, fundraising or other key contribution.

Qualifications:

  • The volunteer must have volunteered for the non-profit within the past year
  • The volunteer must provide their services in an uncompensated capacity.
  • The non-profit organization must be located in North Texas and have operated as a qualified non-profit for the past three years.

Distinguished Performing Arts Leadership

To serve its mission, a non-profit performing arts organization requires a leader with skills in fundraising, marketing, governance, and programming. The Performing Arts Leadership Star Award celebrates an individual organization’s leadership role who has made a significant impact on the performing arts on behalf their organization with an impact on the broader community.

Qualifications:

  • The nominee should possess at least three years in their leadership role with the qualified performing arts non-profit organization.
  • The position may be compensated or uncompensated.
  • The non-profit organization must be located in North Texas and have operated as a qualified non-profit for the past three years.

Distinguished Performing Arts Organization

The Distinguished Performing Arts Organization Stardust Award will go to a non-profit organization or public institution that provides performing arts entertainment or education that is meaningful and impactful to the community at large. Organizations large and small may be considered for this award.

Qualifications:

  • The organization has provided programming and services for at least the prior three years.
  • Public and private non-profit schools and universities may apply for this recognition.
  • The non-profit organization must be located in North Texas and have operated as a qualified non-profit for the past three years.

Distinguished Performing Arts Philanthropy

The Distinguished Arts Philanthropy Stardust Award celebrates the generosity of foundations or individual donors whose significant gifts and financial support allow a non-profit performing arts organization to better serve their mission in our community.

Qualifications:

  • Philanthropy may include corporation, foundation, individual and family or public support.
  • Grants or other contributions must have been received within the past year.

Business Champion for the Performing Arts (Small & Medium Business)

The Business Champion for the Performing Arts (Small & Medium Business) Stardust Award celebrates the contributions and accomplishments of small and medium sized businesses (less than 1,000 employees) whose support and partnership have made significant gifts of time and/or financial support to a non-profit performing arts organization. The business has made substantial efforts to support and champion the performing arts in our community. The award may be for the business or an outstanding community contribution by a leader within the business.

Qualifications:

  • Partnership may include gifts of time, talent, and/or financial support
  • Business must be located in the North Texas region
  • The Partnerships with a non-profit must have occurred within the past year
  • The supported non-profit organization must have offered continuous programming for at least the past three years
  • Nominations may be submitted by the non-profit organization or the public.

Business Champion for the Performing Arts (Large Business)

The Business Champion for the Performing Arts (Large Business) Stardust Award celebrates the contributions and accomplishments of a large business enterprise (1,000 or more employees) whose support and partnership have made significant gifts of time and/or financial support to one or more non-profit performing arts organizations. The business has made substantial efforts to support and champion the performing arts in our community. The award may be for the business or an outstanding community contribution by a leader within the business.

Qualifications:

  • Partnership may include gifts of time, talent, and/or financial support
  • Business must be located in the North Texas region
  • The Partnerships with a non-profit must have occurred within the past year
  • The supported non-profit organization must have offered continuous programming for at least the past three years
  • Nominations may be submitted by the non-profit organization or the public.

NTPA Volunteer Award Descriptions

The recipients of these awards will be determined by the NTPA Management Team and reviewed by the Management Committee of the Governing Board of Directors.

Outstanding Show Manager

This award recognizes the NTPA Show Manager Volunteer whose “above and beyond” efforts have made a significant impact on at least one NTPA productions in the past year. This show manager’s attitude, organization, and success in working with the rest of their volunteer team provide that incredible Show Manager experience.

Qualifications:

  • Must have been an NTPA Show Manager at least twice.

Outstanding Set-Build Creation

This award recognizes the NTPA Set Designer Volunteer whose “above and beyond” efforts have made a significant impact on at least one NTPA productions in the past year. This Set Designer’s attitude, organization, and success in working with the rest of their volunteer team provided that excellent NTPA production set!

Qualifications:

  • Must have been an NTPA Set Build Manager at least twice in their history with NTPA.

Outstanding Costume Design

This award recognizes the NTPA Costume Designer Volunteer whose “above and beyond” efforts have made a significant impact on at least one NTPA productions in the past year. This Costume Designer’s vision, attitude, organization, and success in working with the rest of their volunteer team and students provided that excellent NTPA costume experience.

Qualifications:

  • Must have been an NTPA Costume Designer at least twice in their history with NTPA.

Outstanding Technical Design

This award recognizes the NTPA Sound or Lighting Designer Volunteer whose “above and beyond” efforts have made a significant impact on at least one NTPA productions in the past year. This Designer’s vision, attitude, organization, and success in working with the rest of their volunteer team and students provided that excellent NTPA costume experience.

Qualifications:

  • Must have been an NTPA Sound or Lighting Designer at least twice in their history with NTPA.

Outstanding Show Promotions and Fundraising

This award recognizes the NTPA Promotions Volunteer/Manager whose “above and beyond” efforts have resulted in a successful financial contribution to NTPA and the producing theater through innovative, thoughtful and unique show promotions delivered in a professional and team-oriented spirit.

Qualifications:

  • Must have been a Promotions Manager at least twice in their history with NTPA.

Legacy Award

This award recognizes a special NTPA volunteer, board member, or donor whose efforts merit the highest of distinction for their service, having created a high level of impact for NTPA and leaving a significant legacy behind for their work. This very special award is rarely offered and reserved for those whose meritorious works include years of service and whose work has positively left its mark on NTPA.

Founder’s Award

This award recognizes an NTPA volunteer, board member, or donor whose special efforts merit high recognition of distinction for their service. This award is offered to those participants whose meritorious works place them in a unique pantheon of NTPA’s most impactful volunteers.

President’s Award

This award recognizes the NTPA Board Member whose efforts and contributions deserve recognition for their impact on NTPA and example of leadership for our NTPA boards.

Qualifications:

  • This individual must have served on an NTPA Board for at least two years in order to be considered for this award.

Volunteer of the Year

This award recognizes the NTPA Volunteer whose “above and beyond” efforts have made a significant impact on NTPA shows, programs and activities. This should be “un-compensated” volunteerism that has made this individual a key source of effort and support in the prior year.

(If the Volunteer’s work is in the category of Board Member, Show Manager, Set, Costume, Sound or Lighting Design, please place that nomination in the appropriate category.)

Arts Advocate of the Year

This award recognizes contributions to NTPA or individual theatres by a community leader, business or institution that has made a significant impact with their show of financial or other support.

Rules of the Selection Process

  • The official deadline for nominations is May 31, 2022. NTPA may extend this deadline at its own discretion.
  • North Texas Performing Arts reserves the right to choose its own qualifications for each award category and retains the full and complete right to change the categories, award criteria, qualifications, award schedule and dates.
  • Some categories (such as “Artists” may be subdivided into individual genres (Dance, Drama, Voice) provided the number of “Finalists” can be 4-5 per category.
  • The Advisory Council should select up to five finalists for each category including an Honoree.
