NTPA is thrilled to announce UpSTARt, a series of free monthly workshops that will soon replace our P.A.G.E. (Performing Arts Growth Essentials) classes.
The purpose of the UpSTARt workshops is to educate new students and parents on the expectations for involvement in a major production at NTPA. Each two-hour workshop will be taught by one or more NTPA directors.
4 Things You’ll Learn at UpSTARt
- Theatre Terminology – Students will expand their theatre vocabulary. They will learn the meanings and applications of terms such as projecting, cheating out, upstaging, stage left, stage right, upstage, downstage, and more.
- Basic Skills – Students will learn a variety of vocal and physical warmups that they can do to prepare their voice and body before auditions, rehearsals, and performances. They will also learn how to improve their communication, focus, confidence, imagination, teamwork, and other skills through improvisation exercises and theatre games.
- Audition Coaching – The director will teach kids how to choose audition pieces that are best suited for their age, skills, and desired role/s in a show. Students will learn what to expect when they walk into an audition room. They will then practice presenting their chosen audition pieces. Afterwards, the director will provide them each with individualized suggestions and coaching.
- Information for Parents/Guardians – Parents/guardians will receive an FAQ handout that describes the schedule and expectations for auditions, callbacks, rehearsals, and performances. They will have the opportunity to ask any additional questions during a Q&A at the end of the workshop.
By taking an UpSTARt workshop, kids will be given the tools to take their first step into the world of theatre and become confident, enthusiastic, and engaged young actors.
This workshop is highly recommended for anyone who wants to brush up on their theatrical knowledge and improve their audition skills!
