Synopsis

Presenting NTPA-Plano’s Pride Month Title: Everybody’s Talking About Jamie!

Jamie New is sixteen and lives on a council estate in Sheffield. Jamie doesn’t quite fit in. Jamie is terrified about the future. Jamie is going to be a sensation.

Supported by his brilliant, loving mum and surrounded by his friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies, and steps out of the darkness into the spotlight.

Sixteen: the edge of possibility. Time to make your dreams come true.

Director’s Note

I am thrilled to have the opportunity to direct “Everybody’s Talking about Jamie” because it’s a story that resonates deeply with me. At its heart, it’s a tale of resilience, self-discovery, and the power of unconditional love.

Jamie New’s journey is one of triumph over adversity. Despite facing numerous challenges and societal prejudices, Jamie refuses to dim his light. His unwavering confidence and pride are truly inspiring, serving as a reminder that we should never let others dictate our worth or dampen our spirits.

One aspect of the story that particularly moves me is Jamie’s relationship with his mother. Their bond is a beautiful portrayal of love, support, and acceptance. It highlights the importance of having a strong support system, especially during times of uncertainty and doubt.

As a director, I am passionate about bringing Jamie’s story to life on stage because it’s a celebration of individuality and the courage to embrace who you truly are. It’s a reminder that we all deserve to shine brightly and take center stage in our own lives. I believe that “Everybody’s Talking about Jamie” has the power to uplift, inspire, and spark meaningful conversations about acceptance and inclusion.

– Jason Robert Villarreal

Synopsis

A hilarious musical whodunit! Based on Charles Dickens’ final unfinished novel, this hilarious whodunit invites the audience to solve its mystery by choosing the identity of the murderer. The tale is presented as a show-within-a-show, as the Music Hall Royale – a delightfully loony Victorian theatre company – presents Dickens’ brooding mystery.

Synopsis

The primary plot of Much Ado About Nothing turns on the courtship and scandal involving young Hero and her suitor, Claudio, but the witty war of words between Claudio’s friend Benedick and Hero’s cousin Beatrice often takes center stage.

Set in Messina, the play begins as Don Pedro’s army returns after a victory. Benedick, a gentleman soldier, resumes a verbal duel with Beatrice, the niece of Messina’s governor, Leonato. Count Claudio is smitten by Leonato’s daughter, Hero. After Don Pedro woos her in disguise for Claudio, the two young lovers plan to marry in a week. To fill in the time until the wedding, Don Pedro and the others set about tricking Benedick and Beatrice into falling in love with each other. Meanwhile, Don Pedro’s disgruntled brother, Don John, plots to ruin Hero and halt her wedding. Claudio believes Don John’s deception, is convinced Hero has a lover, and, at the wedding, brutally rejects her.

With Hero in hiding and falsely reported dead, Beatrice persuades Benedick to fight Claudio. Twists and turns lead to a notable ending of one of Shakespeare’s most famous comedies.

Synopsis

Described by Edward Albee as “the greatest American play ever written,” Our Townpresents the small town of Grover’s Corners in three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage” and “Death and Eternity.” Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, the play depicts the simple daily lives of the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually – in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre – die. Thornton Wilder’s final word on how he wanted his play performed is an invaluable addition to the American stage and to the libraries of theatre lovers internationally.
